Determine the destiny of Rome as you conquer foreign lands and navigate political intrigue in this turn-based RPG. How will you shape the future of Rome?
Expeditions: Rome won "Game of the Year" and was nominated for "Best Audio" at Spilprisen 2023 (Danish Game Awards).
In this project I was part of the audio team at Laced Audio, so it was a team effort to make it happen. Many of the features were co-developed with the rest of the team, but here's a selection of the things I worked on:
For the game, Logic Artists wanted an interactive music system responsive to game states, which I built using TimeSynth (a precursor to Quartz).
I also created a custom emitter which reacted to the Day/Night Cycle, as well as helped develop a Modular Combat System where audio is swapped out based on the type of weapon, armor and hit type. The UI sounds were designed similarly.
Custom editor tools were developed to speed up design and implementation, along with a system for dynamic ambience based on level states and storyline decisions.
I have also made a presentation about the tools and systems we developed, which I presented at Sweden Game Conference 2024. Shoot me an email if that sounds interesting for your conference or game developer gathering.
